Hi, I have a Toshiba Satellite 17' widescreen P20 laptop with an Nvidia GeForce FX Go5200 video card, 2gb ram and a 2.8Ghz processor. Having run the Windows 7 compatibility utility, I have received a green light to upgrade my system on all fronts save for the graphics card which the utility tells me might have difficulties running the 'Aero' features of W7. This machine is a Dell Latitude D800 with an Nvidia Geforce FX5200 Installed. The D800 has a removable video card which is fairly simple to replace. The other compatible cards can be farmed from. I recently purchased a used GeForce FX5200 PCI 256mb to replace my original AGP card in my Dell Dimension 4600. According to the WIndows7 site this card is supposed to be compatible but I can't find any Windows 7 drivers for it. Also the card is not recognized in the device manager. Hello! I'm using an older Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 on the machine where I'm running the Windows 10 preview. I've run into a driver issue. Now, I know this is an older card, not capable of running modern games with nice graphics. But I don't need to do that on this computer. I just need to be able to use windows. Here is what happens:
Windows 10 installs the generic Microsoft driver. That allows me to use windows, except that the resolution is very low and screen effects are choppy, just as you'd expect with a card before you installed the proper driver. Howevery, when I install the driver for the 5200 and restart, the computer looks great, with proper resolution and zero choppiness. You wouldn't even think there was a problem until you start running the metro-styled windows apps.
Geforce 5200 Windows 7 64
Apps like Edge/Spartan, the System Update, the Windows Store all use the new metro-style window rather than the standard window, like Internet Explorer. Any app with that funny window style will simply freeze. Other apps that run in normal windows run just fine. Now, I know the computer/video card can run the funny windows, because it does it on the generic microsoft driver. but it acts like it can't do it once it's using a proper nvidia driver.

Any suggestions for this card/driver issue are very much appreciated.
